Vaiyākaraṇa Siddhānta Kaumudī of Bhaṭṭojī Dīkṣita is one of the most popular texts of Pāṇinian grammar. It is a reordering of the sūtras of Aṣṭādhyāyī to facilitate a student to pick up rūpasiddhi (derivation of forms) easily. Kaumudī is also known for the exactness of its Vṛtti-s (sūtrārtha), which distill the essence of Mahābhāṣya succintly.
In this course, the entire Kṛdanta Prakaraṇa of the kaumudī, comprising of the Pūrvakṛdantas and Uttarakṛdantas will be covered, with a two-pronged focus on understanding of sūtras and applying them for the derivation of Kṛdanta forms of the nearly 2000 dhātus, which are the basic building blocks of Sanskrit language.
The course is meant for interested learners who have a basic working knowledge of the Aṣṭādhyāyī, and who would wish to understand the Pāṇinian framework for Kṛt pratyayas.
The course would be particularly useful for students who are attempting graduate level exams in Vyākaraṇa śāstra, as the Kṛdanta Prakaraṇa of Siddhānta Kaumudī is prescribed in almost all universities for graduate level study in Vyākaraṇa.
