The Campūrāmāyaṇa of Bhoja is one of the most popular kāvya-s of the Campū type, known for the beauty of expressions. The Bālakāṇḍa of this poem is prescribed for study in many examinations at the graduate level, including the Shastri examination of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha Tirupati, Karnataka Sanskrit University, Samartha (4th Level) of Chittoor Bhasha Pracharini Sabha, etc.
In this course, we will study the Bālakāṇḍa in detail following the traditional method. We will learn to read the padya and gadya portions, do the padaccheda (splitting of words), understand the meaning of each word (prati-padaartha), relate them to each other (anvaya using aakaankshaa), and understand their import. We will also examine the grammatical (sandhi, samaasa, subantas, tinantas, etc) and poetic (alankara, chandas, etc) aspects.

2. For how long is this course?
Approximately 6 months/25 classes. The number of classes may vary slightly depending on the interest and participation from students.
3. What if I cannot attend classes at that time?
After each class, a video recording of the class, along with all the notes and exercises will be uploaded in our portal. You can follow the uploaded lessons at any time convenient to you. You can also email us with your doubts or questions, if any.
Participating in the live classes will give you the additional opportunity to interact with the teacher and other students.
4. Is attendance compulsary? What if I miss a class in the middle of the course?
In the interest of your own learning, it is advisable for you to participate in the webinars with the same punctuality and regularity as you would attend a face-to-face course. However, if you have to miss some classes due to unavoidable circumstances, please inform the teacher by email in advance. You can catch up with the class using the uploaded materials.

2. I don’t know to read and write Samskrit. Can I attend this course?
All the slides and exercises will be exclusively in Samskrita. Hence, we would advise you to join one of our other courses to pick up these basic skills before attempting this course. Our Learn Sanskrit – Level 1 course will give you a very good grounding in the basics of Samskrita.
3. I cannot speak Samskrita. Can I attend this course?
It is enough if you can understand spoken Samskrita. By the end of the course, you will be speaking Samskrita yourself. You will pick up the language naturally by listening and participating in the classes.
4. Is there any other course that I can attend before taking up this course?
Yes. If you have not already done so, please take up the course on Vibhakti to know the basics on sentence construction. Also go through the classes on Kridantas. If you are familiar with Kannada, this is a must-listen series of lectures on the importance of kāvya – kāvya-śāstra-sambandha.

2. What will be the language used in the classes?
It will be 95% Samskrita. It is the experience of many of our students that their Samskrita knowledge has improved significantly simply by listening and absorbing the Samskrita atmosphere in the class. You will also be encouraged to express yourself in Samskrita as much as possible. In some rare cases, for assisting understanding, additional English explanations will be used.
3. What is the fee for this course?
This course is absolutely free! The only things you will need to invest is your interest and commitment to attend the classes regularly and participate in the activities.
4. Will I get a certificate for this course?
No. But this portion is prescribed for study in many examinations at the graduate level, including the Shastri examination of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha Tirupati, Karnataka Sanskrit University, Samartha (4th Level) of Chittoor Bhasha Pracharini Sabha, etc. You can use this course to prepare for those examinations.
