This course introduces the learners to the tradition of Pāṇinian grammar, and gives an overview of the structure and construction of the Aṣṭādhyāyī. They will gain an understanding of all the major concepts of Sanskrit grammar in a way which will facilitate easy progression into the study of texts of Pāṇinian grammar. They can also practice applying the concepts through extensive exercises. The course will be the first step for a committed learner to easily understand simple Sanskrit texts.

2. For how long is this course?
Approximately 1 year.
3. What if I cannot attend classes at that time?
After each class, a video recording of the class, along with all the notes and exercises will be uploaded in our portal. You can follow the uploaded lessons at any time convenient to you. You can also email us with your doubts or questions, if any.
Participating in the live classes will give you the additional opportunity to interact with the teacher and other students.
4. Is attendance compulsary? What if I miss a class in the middle of the course?
In the interest of your own learning, it is advisable for you to participate in the webinars with the same punctuality and regularity as you would attend a face-to-face course. However, if you have to miss some classes due to unavoidable circumstances, please inform the teacher by email in advance. You can catch up with the class using the uploaded materials.
5. I came to know of this course late, and a few classes have already happened? What do I do?
Please catch up with the classes that have already happened with the help of our materials. You can then start attending the live webinars.

2. I don’t know to read and write Samskrit. Can I attend this course?
All the notes and exercises will be exclusively in Samskrita. Hence, we would advise you to join one of our other courses to pick up these basic skills before attempting this course. Our Learn Sanskrit – Level 1 course will give you a very good grounding in the basics of Samskrita.
3. I cannot speak Samskrita. Can I attend this course?
It is enough if you can understand spoken Samskrita. By the end of the course, you will be speaking Samskrita yourself. You will pick up the language naturally by listening and participating in the classes.
4. Is there any other course that I can attend before taking up this course?
Yes. If you have not already done so, please take up the course on Vibhakti to know the basics on sentence construction.
These will be virtual classes, conducted through a tool called Gotowebinar.
Once you register for the course, you will receive an email before every class, with a link to enter the webinar room.
Technical requirements for attending the webinar – Any computer/laptop/Smartphone. Earphones/Headphones with mic.
After each class, materials (notes, audio, video, handouts, etc) will be uploaded in vyoma-samskrta-pathasala (www.sanskritfromhome.in). You can access these by registering for the course
2. What will be the language used in the classes?
It will be 95% Samskrita. It is the experience of many of our students that their Samskrita knowledge has improved significantly simply by listening and absorbing the Samskrita atmosphere in the class. You will also be encouraged to express yourself in Samskrita as much as possible. In some rare cases, for assisting understanding, additional English explanations will be used.
3. What is the fee for this course?
This course is absolutely free! The only things you will need to invest is your interest and commitment to attend the classes regularly and participate in the activities.
4. Will I get a certificate for this course?
Yes. You can opt for an examination at the end of the course if you want a certificate. On successful completion of the exam, you will get a course-completion certificate from Vyoma Linguistic Labs Foundation. [Note that your attendance in live classes and participation in class activities will also count as a part of the course-assessment.]
The dates and pattern of examination will be announced by the teacher at the end of the course.
Is there a particular book I need to buy for the course?
The teacher, vid. Tilaka M Rao has authored a book called Aṣṭādhyāyīpraveśa, which has lessons and exercises which will be covered in this course. The two-volume book has been published by Veda Vijnana Shodha Sansthan. Those who want to purchase the book may send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
For learners in the US, the book will be made available shortly in the online bookstore of Samskrita Bharati.
The book is recommended for learners, to practice additional exercises and gain proficiency in the subject. However, it is not mandatory to possess the book in order to attend the classes. All the required materials will be provided by the teacher in his presentation, and can be downloaded from the portal.
